GDS: Why is no detailed tax information with GDS bookings, but there is with Booking Engine bookings?

When BookingCenter saves a booking, we also save detailed tax information when booked via the Booking Engine. We break out and show the guests the taxes to be paid, according to the tax settings. This is done regardless of whether the property is set to 'tax-inclusive' (ie, VAT or GST type) or 'tax-exclusive'. When we've shown the guest the specific taxes, we save that information with the booking, so there is detailed tax information saved with each booking BookingCenter generates.

However, when a booking is made via a third-party system (XML, GDS, OTA such as booking.com, Expedia, Travelocity, etc) we can't be sure whether the system ever displayed specific tax amounts. In fact, most systems DO NOT display the specific taxes to be paid for the travel, just the tax percentages and whether they are included or not in the rate.

For this reason, you may notice that Management Tool/Pro customers do see a break out of tax detail on the Booking Detail screens when a Booking Engine booking, but not when it's a third-party booking. However, rest assured that all 3rd party systems do display the tax percentages, and whether they are included or not in the rate. The actual tax amounts may be left as a mystery :-)
