Test Credit Cards Used for Online BookingsEach credit card company (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, etc) provides test credit card numbers to developers that can pass what is called 'CRC checking' but are not valid for obtaining authorizations. BookingCenter uses a CRC Check on our Booking Engine to test whether a card is potentially valid (i.e., the numbers pass the numeric test pattern established by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, etc...). However, these test cards can pass the test and confirm a booking made online. There is no way to avoid a test card making an online booking short of authing manually (your staff doing this when you receive a credit card number that looks suspicious) or setting a deposit policy online and having our payment gateway charge an advanced deposit (see: http://www.bookingcenter.com/products/modules/pos.html for Desktop and Management Tool solutions and http://www.bookingcenter.com/products/modules/mycard.html for MyPMS's MyCard embedded payment gateway details). If the payment gateway is active, and you have a deposit policy, then the system will automatically auth and any 'Test card' would be rejected as test cards don't provide authorizations. The situation where a test card is used to 'fake' a booking is extremely rare, but the opportunity for fraud will always exist in our global electronic world. | |
