Online Bookings | Difference between a "stay through" restrictions and an "arrival based/day of arrival" restriction?
Posted by Ryan Timms on 16 Mar 2016 11:25 AM

There are many questions around minimum length of stay (minLOS) requirements and how this works within the product and the various distribution channels. This often stems from the key difference between a "stay through" minimum length of stay and an "arrival based/day of arrival" minimum length of stay.

The definitions are as follows:

  • "Arrival based/day of arrival" minimum length of stay
    • The minimum length of stay applies to the Arrival Date.
    • Example: A three-night minLOS is set for August 2nd; but has a one-night minLOS on August 1st and August 3rd. Any guest whose stay starts on August 2nd, will be required to stay at least 3 nights. If the guest made the reservation on August 1st or August 3rd, they could book for just one night.

  • "Stay Through" minimum length of stay
    • Properties set a policy on minimum stay at any given period. This refers to the check-in date and check-out date, which must fall within a given period.
    • Example: A three-night minLOS is set for August 16th. Any guest whose stay includes that day (August 16th) must stay at least 3 nights.
Currently, Expedia, Booking.com, and the GDS/IDS support "arrival based/day of arrival" minimum length of stay.

The BookingCenter MyPMS product and the BookingCenter booking engine utilizes "stay through" minimum length of stay.

In some cases, properties would create a new rate plan within BookingCenter for the GDS/IDS and OTA channels if they did not want day of arrival restrictions.
