Setting up an Ethernet Receipt Printer for Point of Sale (POS) operations

1. Get the printer setup and powered on as explained in the instructions that came with the printer.

If you need to Add an Ethernet Interface to your Epson printer, read Step 2 below. If your Epson printer has an Ethernet Interface, go to step 3 below.

2. Get the proper DIP switches set on the ethernet adapter. Begin by doing a self-test, by holding the FEED and turn on until printed. Now there are two possible scenarios you must remember, based on the firmware number printed on the self-test (it is obvious what the firmware version is, as the printer prints it):

If the Firmware Version ends in EAI then we need the following:
Group 2 (the DSW1 and DSW2 names the dip switch groups), # 3 of the group needs to be OFF and #4 needs to be ON. This will now make it Ethernet - ready.

If the Firmware Version ends in ESC/POS then we need the following:
Group 2 (the DSW1 and DSW2 names the dip switch groups), # 7 of the group needs to be OFF and #8 needs to be ON. This will now make it Ethernet - ready.

Now you know which DIP switches to switch.

Unscrew the serial interface plate on back & under the printer. There are 2 screws. Remove the plate. Under a metal plate held by 1 screw, you need to view the DIP switch configuration of the printer andn do what was stipulated above by firmware version #. There should be 2 groups of DIP switches, each 8 DIPS. If you have a printer with one group of 8 and one of 4 DIPS witches, we can not place an Enet card in. All Epson TMU220 printers ought to be OK, though, and that is what model we use at BookingCenter.

3. Assign an IP Address to your printer. The PC (or Mac) you wish to use has to be set as subnet: 192.168.192.x . Subnetmask:255.255.255.0. Now connect the PC via ethernet to the printer and opne http://192.168.192.168 which will bring up the web-based config screen. Click TCP/IP and you can now assign the printer whatever ethernet address you wish to use for your LAN. Once this is done, the Epson folks say that any prior Epson configuration that worked on a Serial Interface ought to flow seamlessly to the new IP address via the Ethernet Interface.

4. Step-by-step details on how to setup the Parameters | Registers | Printer Setup is at: http://www.bookingcenter.com/help/pos/POS_Mac_OSX.html. For further assistance with the Printer settings from within BookingCenter Desktop, see the Reference Manual section on 'Setting up Printers'.
