Why can properties OFAC Sanctioned Countries not get listed on some travel sites?

Because a great deal of the major travel distribution systems are USA-based corporations, they must follow the law of the OFAC Sanctions Program ( http://www.ustreas.gov/offices/enforcement/ofac/programs/) when dealing with a property in an OFAC country.

BookingCenter has been able to list properties in USA_based GDS systems (such as Sabre and Galileo) that are found in OFAC countries, such as Syria, while other USA-based networks (such as Pegasus) refuse to carry the property.

What is the rhyme and reason for these choices? We have no idea and never get a clear answer. But if your property is in an OFAC Sanctioned Country, please be aware that Pegasus seems to always reject the property, while the GDS systems and other networks such as HotelGoGo, Web Reservations, and others will take them.

As we get more information about this topic, we will add. But be aware that global distribution will be impacted in some way if the property is located in an OFAC Sanctioned Country.
